VoLTE (Voice Over LTE) FAQs
What is VoLTE
VoLTE (Voice over Long Term Evolution) enables customers with compatible devices to place and receive calls over the TELUS LTE network rather than the HSPA network. When VoLTE is activated on your device, all calls are transmitted seamlessly via the TELUS LTE network within VoLTE-capable LTE coverage areas.
Benefits of VoLTE:
- Voice and LTE data: Use voice and data simultaneously without any network switches.
- High-definition sound quality: Experience clearer sound quality when calling another VoLTE-enabled device.
- Faster call setup time: Connect calls faster than traditional cellular connections.
VoLTE availability
VoLTE service is available across Canada, with VoLTE E911 accessible in all VoLTE-enabled regions. In locations where VoLTE E911 is unavailable, standard 911 calls can still be made.
In the United States, including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, VoLTE is necessary for service due to the 3G/HSPA network shutdown in 2022. Ensure seamless service while roaming in the US by using a Public Mobile VoLTE-certified device.
Frequently Asked VoLTE Questions:
Are there additional costs associated with VoLTE?
No. Making voice calls with VoLTE will be treated as a regular voice call and will not affect your data usage.
Does VoLTE use up my data?
No, VoLTE calls do not consume any data from your monthly allowance. All voice usage is billed according to your Public Mobile subscription.
Do I need a special SIM card for VoLTE?
No, all Public Mobile SIM cards, including physical SIMs and eSIMs, support VoLTE as long as your device is compatible.
How do I know if my device is VoLTE capable?
Not all VoLTE-capable phones are certified across all service providers. If your device isn't compatible, you will continue to rely on the 3G network in supported areas.
